Child dies in freak mishap at school; Parents hold protest

Angry protests were witnessed today at an MCD school in the Badli area on the outskirts of the city after an eight-year-old student was killed in a freak accident there, police said.

In the incident which took place on Monday afternoon, one Rohit, a student of class III, lost his balance and fell after slipping off the handrail of the staircase at the school. The child sustained serious head injuries in the accident, police said.

Teachers at the school had rushed him to a private hospital from where he was shifted to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital. The child succumbed to his injuries last night at RML hospital, police added.
 

This morning, the deceased's parents, accompanied by several locals, staged a protest outside the school and accused the teachers of negligence.

School authorities had to make a PCR call after which police rushed to the spot to pacify the protesters.

Meanwhile, upon a complaint from the deceased child's father, a case of culpable homicide due to negligence under Section 304 A of IPC has been registered against Sukur Prasad, a teacher at the school.

No arrests have been made in the case so far while further inquiries are underway, police said.
