Child dies of malaria after malnutrion treatment

A two-year-old girl, once treated for extreme low weight and alleged malnutrition at a nutritional centre, died of malaria in a hospital here, sources said today.

Manasi Pradhan, daughter of Sadhabani and Dhaneshwar Pradhan of Tala Nagada, died of malaria last evening while under treatment at a hospital. She was admitted to the hospital two days ago, hospital sources said.

Nagada village hogged headlines over the death of twenty children due to alleged malnutrition in three months last year.

Once Manasi's malnourished body first apperaed in the media, she was treated at the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) for a long period.
 

Alarmed over the situation, senior officials from the Centre and the state had visited the village. The authorities had directed the district administration to take steps for development of the village.

The Jajpur district administration had taken a host of development programmees including health measures to bring about positive changes in the village.
