Timely intervention of the Women and Child Development officials here averted a marriage of a 13-year-old girl, who was to be married by her parents tomorrow due to trouble from a local goon, an official said.

"The terrified family from Chandan Nagar area here had planned the marriage of their minor daughter tomorrow. But when we came to know about it, we stopped them from going ahead with their plan. They were going to marry their daughter in some other city for her safety," District Women and Child Development Officer Chitra Yadav told PTI here today.

According to the girl's parents, she was being constantly troubled by a local goon, identified as Manish Maratha, she said.

The minor girl's family members claimed that they had made repeated complaints at the local police station against Maratha, though the police had not taken any action in this regard, she added.

When contacted, Superintendent of Police (SP) (West Zone), Aabid Khan, said he would check whether any complaint had been filed in this regard earlier.

He also said that appropriate action would be taken in this regard.
