Several child victims of trafficking today narrated their stories before a panel of experts, revealing the gravity of the situation in the country.

At a public hearing, the experts heard the accounts of eight children who were trafficked and later rescued by child rights bodies.

A girl victim from Uttar Pradesh narrated how she was trafficked and thrown into sex trade.

"Empowering youths, both boys and girls, is the need of the hour to deal with such deep-seeded problems. Only when our young generation takes a vow against such practices, can these problems be eliminated," she said.

An assessment of the present scenario of child trafficking in the country will be shared with the Ministry of Women and Child Development and other key stakeholders, said Bharti Ali, co-director of HAQ Centre for Child Rights, which organised the public hearing.
