While six infants died in Mizoram allegedly due to vaccination, no evidence have been found so far, state health minister Lal Thanzara said the state legislature today.

Replying to supplementary questions from ruling and opposition members, Lal Thanzara admitted that six infants died after being administered vaccination during October and November in the state.

He said that investigation has been launched into the reported infant deaths to ascertain the cause of deaths.

Opposition members and ruling Congress members alleged that some infants in their constituencies died under mysterious circumstances a day or two after taking vaccination.

Lal Thanzara, however, said that medicines used for vaccination by the state Health and Family Welfare department were guaranteed to be safe if preserved in cold chain (refrigerator) with the right temperature, used before expiry date, if the vaccine vial monitor markings remained intact and if administered with the right dose.

"We do not think that the six infants died due to vaccination as the department considered the vaccination as safe," he said.
