Sixteen children suffered suspected food poisoning after they were served meals during a camp as part of government's literacy campaign in Palhani block here, prompting authorities to order a probe.

The children complained of being unwell after eating the food last night in a pre-integration camp run under Sarv Siksha Abhiyan at Lachirampur and were rushed to the hospital.

"Till morning, 16 children fell ill and were admitted to the district hospital, where seven are undergoing treatment while others were discharged", Chief Medical officer Dr VB Singh said today.

All the children were in the age group of 10-12 years.

The District Magistrate has ordered a probe into the incident.
