Chill continues in north, sunny day in Delhi

Delhiites woke up to a bright and sunny morning today even as other northern states reeled under intense cold. Bright sunshine greeted the national capital with the maximum temperature settling at 22.6 degree Celsius, while the minimum was 8.5 deg C. The humidity oscillated between 44 and 86 per cent. Intense cold conditions prevailed in most parts of Punjab and Haryana with Amritsar at minimum 3.6 deg C, one point below normal, remaining the coldest place in the region. In Haryana, Narnaul recorded minimum 5 deg C, Bhiwani 6.4 deg C and Karnal 6.2 deg C. Chandigarh, the joint capital of the two neighbouring states, settled at minimum 7.3 deg C. Night temperature fell by a few notches in parts of Rajasthan where both Chittorgarh and Dabok recorded a low of 4.5 deg C. Sriganganagar shivered at minimum 5.7 deg C, while both Churu and Pilani recorded 5.9 deg C. Tribal areas and other higher hills of Himachal Pradesh witnessed bone chilling cold with mercury staying several notches below the freezing point, while day temperature rose by few degrees across the state. Mercury dipped to minimum -14.5 deg C and maximum -0.6 deg C at Keylong in tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti. Kalpa in Kinnaur shivered at minimum -7.0 deg C and maximum zero deg C. The key tourist resort of Manali recorded a low of -4.0 deg C. The state capital Shimla recorded minimum 4.3 deg C. Elsewhere, Kaza recorded a low of -21 deg C, Bhuntar -0.2 deg C, Sundernagar 2.0 deg C and Solan 3.0 deg C.
