Mobile payment gateway Chillr will tie up with four leading banks next month to facilitate easier online payments, and is expected to partner 15 top banks by the end of March.

Earlier this year, it had tied-up with HDFC Bank.

"We are partnering with four more banks by the end of October, and will work with 15 top banks in the country by the end of March 2016," Chillr Co-founder & CEO Sony Joy told PTI.

The payment gateway app of Kochi-based MobMe Wireless is in the process of raising a first strategic round of investments, which would power its technology as well as hiring, he added.

The company started with an angel investment of USD 1 million in 2013.

"We are looking to build a team of 70 people by the end of the current fiscal," Joy said.

Chillr is not a payment wallet, but is linked directly to the customer's bank account and can be accessed using a mobile PIN known to the customer alone.

Over 50 per cent of the transactions on Chillr are individual transactions, like mobile or data card recharge.

The company is in the process of tying up with local businesses and kirana stores to power its person-to-merchant transactions, and it aims to bring on board up to 30,000 merchants by March 2016.

The app, which currently has about 200 merchant users across seven cities, will be launched in eight more cities over the next seven to eight months, Joy said.

Once the bank tie-ups firm up, Chillr, which manages its own customer acquisitions, will also have access to customers from partner banks, he said.

The app has about 3 lakh downloads, and over 75,000 active users. It has powered transactions of over Rs 13 crore, Joy said.
