A chilly morning in the national capital today failed to deter the thousands of people who gathered on both sides of the majestic Rajpath, the ceremonial boulevard facing Raisina Hills, to cheer the marching contingents for the 65th Republic Day.

The minimum temperature in the national capital was recorded a notch above normal at 9.9 degrees Celsius, but overcast conditions, moderate fog and chilly winds ensured that it was a cold morning in the national capital.

The chill though was not as intense as it has been in some of the past years. For instance, in 2013, the low was recorded at 6.4 degrees, two notches below the normal.

As the day progressed, clouds gave way to bright sunshine. The MeT department said that the maximum is expected to settle at 20 degrees today.

The maximum had yesterday tumbled seven notches to settle at 14.4 degrees.

The minimum yesterday had been at 9.4 degrees, two notches above normal.
