Chimpanzees fed herbal tonic in Patna Zoo to resist cold

A pair of Chimpanzees brought to Sanjay Gandhi Botanical Garden here from the Nandan Kanan Zoo in Bhubaneshwar are fed with 'Chyavanprash' in the morning as well in evening hours to ward off cold, Abhay Kumar, Director of Patna Zoo said.

He said since Chimps have many qualities like humans providing them ayurvedic tonic yields good results in the winter.

Zoo veterinary doctor Samrendra Bahadur Singh said 15 gram 'chyavanprash' is given to Chimpanzees everyday in the morning as well evening for additional dose of Vitamin C.

Singh said for other animals also winter diet chart has been prepared and they are given the feed as per requirements in the chill.

 

The quantum of chicken for the cat family has been increased to 11 kg a day now as compared to 8-9 kg earlier, the veterinary doctor said.

Likewise, the bear family is getting higher intake of honey to resist biting cold, he added.

Singh said the night house of deer family including Cheetal and Barasingha have been covered with straws while the shelter for snakes and reptiles have 200 watt bulb to keep them warm.
