Two men were today arrested in China's eastern Wenzhou city in early morning raids by the police who sezied explosives and other weapons from them and claimed to have busted a 'terrorist' gang that was active locally.

Five homemade bombs and knives were seized in a series of coordinated raids, the police department in Wenzhou said on its microblog.

The statement did not identify the men's group, their nationality or ethnicity.

Chinese security forces have been conducting a nationwide campaign mainly against East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM), a separatist militant outfit active among Uygur Muslims in Xinjiang province, nearly 3,000 kilometres from the major industrial city Wenzhou.

China accuses ETIM of carrying a number of violent attacks in Xinjiang, Beijing, Kunming and number of other places in the last few years.
