China today conferred 10 defence officials, including an astronaut, with its highest military award, ahead of the People's Liberation Army's 90th anniversary.
The decision to confer the Order of August 1 was signed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is also general secretary of Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC).
The 90th anniversary of the founding of the PLA will be celebrated on August 1.

Chinese astronaut Jing Haipeng, commander of the Shenzhou-11 spacecraft, is among the officials honoured.
Approved by the CMC on June 12, the Order of August 1 will be awarded to those who have made outstanding contributions to safeguarding the country's sovereignty, security and development interests, and advancing the modernisation of national defence and the armed forces.
