China today expressed condolence to families of those killed and injured in a powerful earthquake that struck southwest Pakistan, leaving over 270 people dead.

"China is closely watching the Pakistan earthquake situation, expresses deep grief over those killed, and offers condolences to the families of those killed and injured," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said at a press briefing.

President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang have sent separate condolence messages to their Pakistani counterparts, Hong said.

"The Chinese government will offer emergency aid to Pakistan in accordance with Pakistan's needs," he said.

The 7.7 magnitude quake struck remote Awaran district in Pakistan's Baluchistan province yesterday.
