China today welcomed the efforts and progress made by India and Pakistan to maintain the ceasefire on the Line of control.

A Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson made the comments following yesterdy's meeting of the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan.

The spokesperson said the improvement of relations between the two countries is of vital importance to regional peace, stability and development.

China always supports efforts by India and Pakistan to resolve their disputes through peaceful dialogue, the spokesperson added.

India and Pakistan yesterday decided to "re-energise" existing mechanisms to maintain the truce on the LoC, months after bilateral ties nosedived over the killing of five Indian soldiers and flare-ups between the two sides on the ceasefire line.

The agreement came at a meeting of the DGMOs of the two sides, who held face-to-face talks for the first time in 14 years at the Wagah border.
