Apsaras from popular folklores came alive when a group of women dressed as brightly coloured nymphs danced gracefully to the sound of Pipa, a popular string instrument that has been played for almost two thousand years in China.
"Behind the Back- Playing of the Pipa," which got its inspiration from the traditional dance of the Tang Dynasty of China, recreated the murals depicted in the Mogao Grottoes caves of Dunhuang in Gansu.
The performance was a part of the Chinese Dance Festival held last evening here at FICCI's Birla auditorium.

"The key source of inspiration for the dance was the murals in the caves of Dun-Huang and the ancient silk roads that linked China with other countries. Both the silk roads and the murals embrace deep symbolism of Chinese history and culture," organisers said.
Organised by Embassy of China, in association with China National Tourist Office and India China Economic and Cultural Council, the festival commemorated the 66th anniversary of founding of People's Republic of China.
"The aim of this cultural event was to represent a slice of Chinese culture to friends in India and to strengthen bilateral cultural cooperation between the two nations," organisers said.
