Chinese general calls for defence mobilisation system

Chinese Defence Minister Chang Wanquan has called for a national defence mobilisation system that meets the needs of both emergency response and war preparation.

Chang made the remarks at a meeting on national defence mobilisation at Lanzhou Military Command in Lanzhou, capital of northwest China's Gansu Province.

The Chinese military is currently conducting massive military exercises to involving over 40,000 troops to test the logistic ability of the army to move the soldiers and machinery to long distances under war time conditions.

The defense mobilisation system would serve civilians in peaceful times and respond to emergencies and possible wars, state run Xinhua quoed Chang, who is also a member of the Central Military Commission (CMC) said.
 

The country should make concrete moves towards a defence mobilisation system so that it can be well prepared for possible conflicts in the future and new circumstances, he said.
