Chinese police have handled over 1.30 lakh pornography cases and 2.80 lakh gambling cases and detained 5,300 suspects since 2017, authorities said today.
Police solved 135 major cross-border cases involving pornography and online gambling during the period, busting domestic organisational channels of casinos based in over 10 countries and regions, detaining over 5,300 suspects, and freezing over six billion yuan (USD 956 million) of involved capital, Ministry of Public Security said.
The ministry has vowed to target the organisers, operators and profiteers from pornography and gambling, and severely punish those providing an "umbrella" for these illegal activities, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
