Popular Chinese singer Yin Xiangjie has been arrested for alleged drug abuse and its illegal possesion, the latest celebrity to be involved in drug offenses after Jackie Chan's son was held on similar charges.

The 45-year-old singer was arrested by the Beijing police in a residential community in Chaoyang district two days ago and more than ten grams of drugs, including crystal methamphetamine, or "ice", were seized from the scene.

Yin confessed to illegally possessing and taking drugs. He is under criminal detention, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

A Beijing native, Yin became famous after singing "Boat Tracker's Love", with his fellow Yu Wenhua, a songstress, in 1993.

China has detained a string of celebrities, including television stars and film directors, on drug-related and prostitution charges this year.

Hollywood action film star Jackie Chan on Monday has said that he is ashamed of his son's indictment in a drug abuse case and added that he has not used any political connection to bail him out of the trouble.

Jaycee, 32, was charged by Chinese prosecutors on December 22, three months after he was caught allegedly smoking marijuana along with a group of friends in his house here.

He was charged with providing a venue for drug users, which could attract a three-year prison term.
