A two-year-old Chinese boy narrowly escaped being blinded after he accidentally fell on scissors that pierced his eye socket - but left his eye intact.

Wang Jierong of Wushan County in western China's Gansu province picked up a pair of scissors from a table in his house.

He was running around with them when he tripped and fell, stabbing himself with the sharp object.

Luckily, the scissors narrowly missed puncturing his left eye, while piercing the top of his eye socket.

Doctors at Lanzhou University Hospital performed emergency surgery to remove the scissors last week, the 'New York Daily News' reported.

Wang is still under close observation to make sure an infection does not develop.

However, doctors said Wang is doing fine.
