Chinese woman tourist arrested from Kathmandu airport

A Chinese female tourist, a frequent visitor to Nepal, has been nabbed from the Tribhuvan International Airport here for possessing illegal foreign currencies worth more than USD 1,13,250.

Acting on a tip-off, the police yesterday arrested Ying Lou from the Kathmandu airport for carrying USD 1,13,250 and Yuan 5,551 without supporting documents.

The Chinese national was nabbed when she was about to depart on board a flight of China Southern Airlines, according to the security chief at the airport.

The illegal currencies, which Ying was apparently smuggling to her country, were found hidden inside the bottom of her baggage during security screening.
 

According to preliminary investigations, Ying was in Nepal for some garments related business.

Records show that she had visited Nepal 16 times in 2014 and a over dozen times in 2015.
