Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi has strongly condemned the attack on the Mahabodhi Temple complex at Bodh Gaya in Bihar.

Deeply regretting the injuries caused to the pilgrims and damage to the property by the attack, Chiranjeevi urged all sections of society to be tolerant to each other in the matter of religious faith and work towards building a humanistic society on the path shown by Lord Buddha.

The shrine, estimated to be built between 5th and 6th century AD, is the holiest site for Buddhists from world over.

Recalling that Lord Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree here in 531 BC, Chiranjeevi has sought an immediate report from the state's tourism department on the damage caused to the World Heritage Site.
