'Chitra car' festival of Braghadeeswarar shrine held

The 'Chitra Car' festival of the Braghadeeswarar temple here was held today after a gap of 80 years.

The 25-tonne new car was taken around the Thiagarajar street around the temple. The roads were also thoroughly renovated for the purpose,District Collector Subbian said.

The eighteen foot tall three-tier temple car had been constructed using country teak wood and 'Iluppai' tree.

The image of the big temple had been carved on it and Mahanandhi's image also had been sculpted.

The wheels for the car were fabricated by Bharat Heavy Electricals.

The new car was crafted by 30 carpenters and trial run held on April 20.
 

The Sthapathis including C.Varadharaja Sthapathy and Sivadurai Sthapathy led the team which crafted the car.
