In end-October, Chitrangada will travel to the South Asian Film Festival, Canada in Vancouver, Mahendra Soni, the producer of the film, said.

The film, a take-off on the mythological love story of Arjuna and warrior-princess of Manipur Chitrangada, is an allegorical exploration of the subject of gender and sexuality.

The National Award wining director himself plays the lead role of a choreographer in the film directing the Tagorean epic while talented Bengali actor Jisshu Sengupta enacts the role of a drummer.

"We have been informed by the Osian's 12th Cinefan Film festival committee that Chitrangada will be screened in the Freedom of Expression section, which came into being to celebrate the various forms of expression," Soni said.

This movie had earlier been screened at the Indian Film Festival, Australia in Sydney on June 24 and at the 12th Annual New York Indian Film Festival as the centrepiece film.

Rituparno had previously acted in films exploring third gender sexuality in in Kaushik Ganguly's "Arekti Premer Golpo" (Just Another Love Story) (2011) and Sanjoy Nag's "Memories in March" (2011).
