Chitraveena maestro Ravikiran to get 'Sangita Kalanidhi' title

Chitraveena maestro N Ravikiran would be conferred with the "Sangita Kalanidhi Award" instituted by the Music Academy here.

The Executive Committee of the academy which met today, unanimously chose Ravikiran for the coveted award, a press release said.

He would be presiding over the 91st Annual Conference of the academy from December 15 to January one, 2018.

The award would be conferred on him at the "Sadas" which is scheduled to be held on January one, 2018.

"Ravikiran has fully lived upto his promise as a child prodigy and has risen to great heights of musicianship over an illustrious career", Academy's President, N Murali said.
 

Noted 'mridangam vidwan' V Kamalakar Rao, Vocalist Radha Namboodiri were selected by the Committee for the 'Sangita Kala Acharya awards', respectively.

Ghatam exponent Sukanya Ramgopal and a leading representative of Odhuvar tradition, Muthu Kandasamy Desikar were selected for the "T T Krishnamachari Awards", it said.

The 'Musicologist award' would be conferred on T S Sathyavathi, while the 'Pappa Venkataramiah award' for Violin would be presented to 'Thiruvallur' Parthasarathy.

The awards would be presented during the 'Sadas' on January one, 2018, the release said.

The 'Nritya Kalanidhi award for Dance' would be presented to bharatanatyam exponent, choreographer, Lakshmi Viswanathan during the inauguration of the annual dance festival scheduled to be held on January 3, 2018 it added.
