Chopan municipal board chairman shot dead in UP's Sonebhadra

The Chopan Nagar Panchayat Chairman Imtiyaz Ahmed was shot dead by three assailants Thursday morning, police said.

One of the assailant was caught and severely thrashed by the locals.

Imtiyaz Ahmed was shot at while he had gone to play volley ball in the Preet Nagar area near his residence as per his daily routine, police said.

Ahmed was rushed to the nearby Community Health Centre from where he was referred to the district hospital but he succumbed to his injuries on the way, police said.

One of the assailants, who was caught by the locals, was beaten up severely and had to be rushed to Varanasi hospital for treatment, police said.

 

Assistant Superintendent of Police (Naxal), Avdhesh Singh, said the injured assailant has been identified as Rakesh Kumar of Palamu, Jharkhand.

The reason behind the killing was not immediately known, the ASP said, adding efforts were on to nab the other two assailants.
