Congress MP and former Madhya Pradesh minister Sajjansingh Varma today alleged Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had not fulfilled the promise to stop the recovery of loans taken by hailstorm-hit farmers and waive the interest.

Dubbing the BJP government in the state "anti-farmer", Varma said while the deadline for repayment of loans given by credit societies was March 15, the societies had not been instructed to suspend the loan recovery yet.

If the farmers do not repay the loans by this date, they will have to pay interest at 14 per cent rate, Varma said.

Also, the government was going to start procurement of wheat at the minimum support price from March 26 while the farmers were supposed to repay the loans by March 15, he pointed out.
