"The Congress is continuously creating hurdles in the development of Madhya Pradesh and the June 12 by-poll has provided an opportunity to the voters to give a befitting reply to the main opposition on the issue," Chouhan said addressing a rally after the BJP candidate Rajkumar Mev filed his nomination from the Maheshwar reserve (SC) seat in Khargone district.
Chouhan further alleged that the Congress-led UPA government was giving the BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government a "step-motherly" treatment. "The biggest proof of this is the drive to delete names of poor persons from the BPL list," he said.
The Centre has been constantly reducing allocations of coal, fertiliser, power, Indira Awas Kutir scheme and distribution of foodgrain for poor people under the PDS, he alleged. "Therefore, it is necessary to teach a lesson to the Congress," he said.
State BJP president Prabhat Jha alleged that former Congress MLA Dr Vijaylaxmi Sadho had "cheated the people" of the constituency by resigning from her seat midway for going to the Rajya Sabha.
Secondly, after the seat got vacant, Congress tried all possible means to avoid elections in Maheshwar and now the people of Maheshwar will give the Opposition a proper punishment.
Besides Chouhan and Jha, BJP National General Secretary Thawarchand Gehlot, Rajya Sabha MP Faggan Singh Kulaste, former Union Minister Satya Narayan Jatia, Industries Miniser Kailash Vijaywargiya, School Education Minister Archana Chitnis and Medical Education Minister Mahendra Hardia and others were present on the occasion.
