In Las Vegas on Monday, the "Don't Wake Me Up" singer, 23, debuted a brand-new, still red tattoo on his neck.
The image appears to be of a glamorous but battered woman with a black eye, scratches and bruises on her face.
Comparisons were quickly drawn with Rihanna after it echoed her face structure, arched eyebrows and plump lips after the 2009 attack.
But Brown's spokesperson has denied that the tattoo has got anything to do with Rihanna, insisting it is inspired by a Mexican holiday called Dia de los Muertos, otherwise known as Day of the Dead, reported TMZ.
"His tattoo is a sugar skull (associated with the Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead) and a MAC cosmetics design he saw. It is not Rihanna or an abused woman as erroneously reported," said the spokesperson.
According to the tattoo artist, Brown picked out the design himself and took it to the parlour having seen it on an advert for the cosmetics brand.
Still connected over three years after Brown's shocking attack, the former couple caused a huge stir at last Thursday's MTV Video Music Awards when Brown congratulated Rihanna, 24, on her Video of the Year award with a kiss and an affectionate hug.
