The principal of Christ Church Girls' High School, who was arrested last Thursday in connection with the death of a class V student, was today released on bail by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Barrackpore.

"The principal has been granted bail by the ACJM's court in Barrackpore against a personal bond of Rs 5,000 and on condition she has to appear before the court on September 30," DCDD, Barrackpore Police Commissionerate, Debashis Bez said here today.

Helen Sarkar, the principal of the school, was arrested for negligence of duty (Section 304A of IPC) on September 12, a day after the death of 11-year-old student Oindrila Das who was confined inside a toilet allegedly by her seniors in an ugly instance of ragging.

The incident triggered a violent agitation by angry guardians who ransacked the institution on September 12, forcing the principal to tender her resignation.

She was produced before the ACJM's court in Barrackpore on September 13, which remanded her to police custody for three days.

Another case was also registered against persons who ransacked the school on the basis of a complaint by a teacher of the school. 14 persons were arrested in this connection.
