French fashion designer Christian Louboutin says he has "no interest" in shopping for clothes and never goes out on a spending spree.

The 54-year-old designer, who has become synonymous to high-end stiletto footwear with shiny, red-lacquered soles, says he may not have the patience to buy clothes but when it comes to artefacts, he is unstoppable.

"No interest. None. I never go clothes shopping, I have no patience for clothes... I have no problem buying things. I always think, there'll be a moment for this piece. I buy a lot of objects," Louboutin told Vogue magazine.

For necessities such as tailoring, he goes to Savile Row and purchases socks from clergy suppliers in Rome.

"There's a place just in front of the Vatican," he adds.

The designer says instead of going shopping, he would rather spend time with someone who is "badly dressed but smart and funny and engaging than someone perfectly dressed and boring, who talks about clothes".

"To me, that's the image of a nightmare: a woman incredibly well-dressed, who can only talk about clothes. That kills it for me," he adds.

His clientele consists of personalities such as Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, Tina Turner, Marion Cotillard, Nicki Minaj, Gwyneth Paltrow, Blake Lively and Sarah Jessica Parker.
