Christian Women's Assly to focus on violence agst women, kids

Around 200 women church leaders from all over the country have assembled to attend the five-day All India Council of Christian Women's Quadrennial Assembly, which began here today to focus its campaign against violence on women and children.

The theme of the assembly is 'Frustrations in Life and Fullness of Life'.

Professor Kusumam Joseph, state coordinator of Medha Patkar's National Alliance of Peoples Movement will deliver the keynote address. Tribal leader C K Janu will be honoured in the assembly for her struggle for the rights of adivasis for land.

Rev Dr Gaikwad, General Secretary of the National Council of Churches in India (NCCI), Alpana Kumar, AICCW President, are among those attending the assembly.
 

All India council of Christian women is the women's wing of NCCI, a century old ecumenical community comprising 14 million members from 30 Protestant and Orthodox churches, 17 regional/state councils and 24 church related Christian organisations.

The council aims at gender mainstreaming, promoting women's and children's rights, among others.
