Christians in Kerala observed 'Good Friday' today avoiding all luxuries and remembering the sufferings and crucification of Jesus Christ 2000 years ago.

Devotees turned up in large numbers in churches where special prayers were held to mark the day.

Spiritual programmes like 'Way of Cross' processions were held across the state in which faithfuls walked bearing wooden crosses commemorating the final moments of Christ.

Hundreds of devotees, bearing huge wooden-crosses on shoulders and rosary in hands, climbed the Malayattoor hills in Kochi, atop which located the famed St Thomas church which is believed to be visited by Apostle St Thomas in AD 52.

In the state capital, 'Good Friday' services were held in all major churches, including St George Orthodox Syrian Cathedral, Mateer Memorial Church and St Joseph Metropolitan Church.
