Christmas celebrated with traditional fervour in TN

Christmas was celebrated with ususal gaiety and religious fervour across Tamil Nadu Tuesday with the faithful thronging the churches for special prayers.

In the state capital, bishops and priests conducted special midnight masses and read out the Christmas message at various churches including the ancient Santhome Basilica cathedral, illuminated with string lights to welcome devotees.

Pilgrims from all over the country gathered at Shrine Basilica of Our Lady of Health at Vailankanni in Nagapattinam district and offered prayers.

As the clock struck 12 at night, priests of the Church came in a procession to announce the birth of Jesus.

Children carried candles and the Holy Bible in the procession.

 

Houses were decked out with sparkling stars and Christmas tree.

Earlier, Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Chief Minister K Palaniswami and various political party leaders including DMK Chief M K Stalin extended Christmas greetings on the occasion.
