CIC received maximum complaints against Delhi Govt in 2013

Central Information Commission received maximum complaints against the Delhi government from RTI applicants in 2013, Lok Sabha was informed today.

In a written response, Minister of State for Personnel V Narayanasamy said Ministry of Railways recorded maximum number of RTI complaints during 2012 while in 2013 Delhi Government was the public authority against whom maximum complaints were received.

On the question of average time taken to furnish response to RTI application, the minister said no such data is maintained.

"However, it is mandatory for all public authorities to supply information within the stipulated time period as provided in the Right to Information Act, 2005," he said.
 

The Minister said there were more than 100 public authorities against whom only one complaint was received during 2013 while in 2012 the number of such public authorities was 90.

"The Right to Information Act, 2005 has an inbuilt mechanism to ensure that the application under the Act are disposed of in time. The act, inter alia, provides for imposition of a penalty of upto a maximum of Rs 25,000 and/or disciplinary action against a public information officer for malafidely not furnishing information in time," he said.
