City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) today said it is mulling to take action against those educational institutes, which have denied admission to wards of 'Project affected people' (PAP), affected by various CIDCO-projects in Navi Mumbai.

CIDCO, the government agency which has undertaken several development projects, mainly includes the Navi Mumbai airport, metro rail facility and IT park, had leased out land to educational institutes at concessional rates and had made it mandatory in 1999 for institute managements to reserve some seats for children of PAPs and CIDCO employees'.

Of late, CIDCO has received complaints from the PAPs and CIDCO employees that some school administrations were denying admissions to their children, following which a meeting of the school managements was called up in early last month, CIDCO said in a statement today.

Subsequently, on 15th May, letters were sent to the schools asking them to furnish details of admission available in the new academic year and the number of reserve seats for the PAPs, it said.

However, of the total 25 institutes, only eight replied with details. Institutes that did not furnish information included 14 junior colleges and three institutes running professional courses.

The institutes may face action by CIDCO for violating the clause in the agreement for the subsidised rate plots, sources said.
