Miscreants waylaid a

Kolkata-bound truck in Nawada district late last night and unloaded cigarette cartons worth Rs two crore loaded on it.

The villagers today found the empty truck and its injured driver abandoned near Hardia village, a few kilometres from the place where it was hijacked.

Rajauli Sub-Divisonal Police Officer (SDPO) Sarfur Rahman said criminals had waylaid the truck, enroute to Kolkata from Munger, where a cigarette factory of ITC is located.

"The criminals hijacked the big truck from a place near Fatehpur Mor on National Highway 31 under Akbarpur police station in the district. It had 500 cartons of cigarettes loaded on it. They thrashed the driver badly, stopped the truck at some place between Fatehpur Mor and Hardia and unloaded the cartons," Rahman said.

The SDPO said that the injured driver somehow managed to reach Rajauli police station and lodged an FIR regarding the incident.

"We have launched investigations in the case and conducting raids to nab the criminals. It's a big consignment of cigarettes and it must be somewhere in the district itself. The criminals will be arrested soon," the SDPO added.
