The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) is considering merging the three science subjects into one paper, and history, geography and civics into another for ICSE Class X board examinations on the lines of CBSE.

"CISCE is considering a proposal to merge history, civics and geography as one subject carrying 100 marks and biology, physics and chemistry as another. All parties concerned including parents will be consulted," CISCE Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Secretary Gerry Arathoon said.

"No final decision has been taken yet but we are considering it seriously," he said.

If implemented, Arathoon said the two papers will be divided into three sections and each of them will be given equal weightage.

"Changes in question paper and examination pattern is also being considered," he said, adding, the board was also planning to have multiple-choice and short answer questions.
