CISF constable, man sentenced to 5 yrs in jail for attempting to smuggle ketamine to Singapore

A court here today sentenced two men, including a CISF constable, to five years in jail for attempting to smuggle a narcotic substance, worth Rs 1.5 crore, to Singapore in 2010.

The prosecution case was that the customs officials at the city airport had found ketamine hydrochloride from the suitcase of a Singapore Airlines passenger on April 4, 2010.

After an inquiry, the passenger, Selvamani (55) of Chennai, and his relative Ramakrishnan (50), working as a CISF head constable, were placed under arrest.

Chief Judicial Magistrate K R Mathurasekharan sentenced the two to undergo five years of imprisonment and directed them to pay Rs 25,000 as fine, failing which they would have to undergo one more year of imprisonment.
