The Madras High Court today extended its CISF security cover for a further period of one year.
The security of the Madras High Court complex was taken over by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) from the state police on November 16, 2015 after lawyers created a ruckus while agitating for declaration of Tamil as an official language of the court and over contempt of court proceedings against two Madurai-based bar association leaders.
The court announced to extend the CISF security cover when a suo motu PIL on providing it to its principal seat at Madras and its Madurai Bench came up.
The court warned the Chairman, Port Trust, on "lack of co-ordination" in connection with the facilities to be provided to the CISF residential quarters and directed the nomination of a nodal officer in the matter failing which, it said, it would be constrained to seek the chairman's personal appearance.
