A Bengaluru airport CISF sub-inspector was today arrested here for allegedly subjecting his wife to cruelty, saying she was not beautiful, police said.

The accused, 32-year-old Sureshkumar hailing from Salem, was booked under IPC section 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), they said.

He got married to the woman in 2011. Some two years after his son's birth, he was transferred to Bengaluru. He then refused to take her to Bengaluru, saying she was not beautiful as per the complaint lodged with police.

The 25-year-old woman, also a native of Salem, had lodged the complaint with police some time back as Sureshkumar started staying separately. Police tried to counsel him, but it was in vain.

Two days ago, the woman met the District Welfare Officer and explained her plight. Officials tried to counsel Sureshkumar, who had come on leave to his native village, but he refused to take or stay with her, police said.

Police then registered a case on her complaint following which he was arrested and remanded in custody.
