The Central Industrial Security Force, which guards vital public transit systems like airports and Delhi Metro, is planning to upgrade the protection systems at these facilities by deploying modern gadgets and better trained personnel.
The force wants to do this to make passengers feel "positive" when they travel by Metro or want to take a flight to any domestic or international destination.
The CISF, which guards 59 civil airports and 134 Metro stations (apart from the airport express line) in the national capital region, has decided to procure some very sophisticated gadgets and scanners for deployment at these places and bring at par the security systems of both these networks to international standards.
"We want to make the passengers' experience as pleasant as possible at both the Delhi Metro and the airports. We want to reduce the inconvenience and want the passengers to feel comfortable and not harassed by security mechanisms at these networks," CISF chief Arvind Ranjan said here today.
The Director General (DG) said the force has recently begun a passenger profiling system in the Delhi Metro, on lines of a similar exercise done by his personnel at airports, to detect suspicious and trouble making travellers.
The force along with the Metro operator, the DG said, is in plans to procure new baggage scanning systems and other gadgets so that it takes less time in frisking and clearing a passenger for travel in the rapid transport network which is sensitive from the security point of view.
Close to 25 lakh people use Delhi Metro daily.
Ranjan said the paramilitary has embarked on 'man and machine integration' drive where all the security gadgets like scanners, CCTVs, detectors, bomb defusers and others are brought on the same platform thereby "standardising" their usage across the country by the security personnel.
"We are trying to improve the quality of security at both the airports and the Delhi Metro network. In the future, we will have more stations of the Delhi Metro and hence we will deploy more personnel in a proportionate manner," the DG said.
