Global banking major Citi today said it has appointed Samiran Chakraborty as Chief Economist for India.
"India continues to be an extremely important market in today's global landscape and Chakraborty brings with him a broad base of experience and expertise that will help us further articulate the India story," Citi Head of Asia-Pacific Economic and Market Analysis Johanna Chua said in a statement here.
Prior to joining Citi, he was Managing Director and Head of Macro Research for South Asia at Standard Chartered Bank.
Chakraborty, who has more than a decade of experience in conducting macro research, covering various asset classes including currency, interest rates and credit markets, has also held prior employments with ICICI Bank as Chief Economist and Delhi School of Economics as faculty for mathematical economics and open-economy macroeconomics.
