In a goodwill gesture, the Railway has rewarded a citizen with Rs 1,500 cash whose information helped avert an impending train accident in between Lahowal and Chowlkhowa in upper Assam on June 7, an official of the Northeast Frontier Railway said today.
A big tree that had fallen across the railway track and the National Highway-37 could have led to a major accident had the man, Biresh Chandra Guha, not passed on the information to the nearest Railway Station Master of Dibrugarh Town, NF Railway Additional Divisional Manager-Tinsukia S Hajong said.
The Station Master then controlled the approaching 12423 Dn Rajdhani Express and information was sent out to the control room to clear the tracks.
