Condemning the dismissal of striking labourers by a firm building a four-lane tunnel from Chanani to Nasari on J&K Highway, the Centre for Indian Trade Unions today urged the state government to ensure that all the dismissed workers are reinstated at the earliest.
"CITU demands the state government to intervene to ensure that all the dismissed workers are reinstated and prevail upon Leighton Company to sort out other demands with the workers's Union within the framework of the law of the land," Secretary State unit of CITU, Jagdish Sharma said today.
"The state committee of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions denounces the repression, victimization and dismissal by Leighton Company, which runs the construction works of four-lane road and tunnel from Chanani to Nasari on J&K Highway," he said.

For more than one year, the workers are being terminated illegally and are being forced to work for 12 hours without any compensation for extra hours of work, the CITU leader said.
"And the state government instead of intervening to discipline and prevail upon Leighton to sort out the issues of termination, working hours and wages with the workers' union, has been indulging and patronizing the company," he alleged.
