Members of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) today staged protest at Jantar Mantar against alleged "attacks" on workers of left party, other groups and institutions related to the "leftist movement" in West Bengal.

"There have been continuous attacks by goons backed by the police who are carrying out attacks on trade union workers and labourers," a press statement by CITU alleged.

During their protest, CITU members raised slogans against West Bengal's government.

The statement also said that it's a move to crush the rights of labourers in order to benefit some traders and industrialists.

Workers from Noida and Ghaziabad also participated in the protest.

"Democratic institution and their activities are being targeted by police and government in West Bengal," Tapan Sen, general secretary, CITU and Rajya Sabha MP from West Bengal said.
