City-based doctor elected IAP national president

Noted city-based pediatrician Dr Santosh Theodore Soans has been elected national president of Indian Academy of Pediatrics to serve a one-year term in 2018.

The result of the election process, which lasted two months, was announced yesterday, a release from the IAP Dakshina Kannada branch said here today.

Soans, who has been serving IAP in various capacities for the last 30 years, is the second person from Karnataka to be elected to the post.

Earlier, Dr D G Benakappa from Bengaluru held the post in 1989.

The Mumbai headquartered IAP is a premier association of pediatricians in India, with over 24,000 members and a pan-India network of branches.
