The bus workers in the city would go on an indefinite strike from December 3, Motor Transport And Engineering Workers Union general Secretary Vasanthachari has said.

The legitimate demand of bus workers to introduce a fixed salary had been ignored by the officials concerned, he said in a statement here.

The bus workers had long been demanding the withdrawal of the present system of payment on commission basis and fix a salary to the tune of Rs 1,100 per day for drivers and Rs 1,000 for conductors.

Their demands also include bonus, leave, ESI, provident fund and gratuity. The union also wanted the bus owners to take up total responsibility in the event of any untoward incident.
