"This record attempt took place on World Hepatitis day on July 28 involving 12,588 people worldwide under the aegis of London based World Hepatitis Alliance," Dr V G Mohanprasad, chief of V G M Hospital told reporters today.
The highest participation was in SKP Higher Secondary School,Udumalpet, where the children mimed the action in their school playground.
Displaying the Guinness certificate, he said the attempt took place within a 24 hour period on July 28 to mark the fifth global world hepatitis day. Participants stood in rows covering their eyes, ears and mouths in sequence.
Individual attempts which contributed to the record varied from modest to the enormous, as in Novia Scotia, Canada, where 224 volunteers held their attempt on a helipad overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
