With Argentina and Germany locking horns in tonight's FIFA World Cup final, popular singers Haimanti Shukla and others sang "Goal de Re" as the city's anthem for the big match.

Besides Shukla, singer Saikat Mitra, son of legendary singer Shyamal Mitra, and Jojo lent their voice to the live performance at Deshopriya Park at 6 pm in the presence of IFA President Subrata Dutta, former India players Subrata Bhattacharya and Dipendu Biswas.

Over 1,000 people from different walks of life also joined as the singers crooned for a music video to be posted on Youtube. This comprised 300 members of the city dancing troupe and 100 upcoming singers and Bengali music bands.

Pop icon Usha Uthup had recorded some part of the entire musical composition during the quarter-final rounds which will be part of the video.

"We aim to carry this forward with some 10 lakh people joining in this effort in a year, all for the cause of football in Asia," lyricist and composer Piloo Bhattacharya said.
