A mulitple layer security blanket has been thrown around Fort St George, venue of Independence Day celebrations tomorrow with as many as 20,000 police personnel deployed for duty here besides intensified coastal patrolling and vehicle checks, police said.
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa would hoist the national flag and deliver her Independence Day address at 8.50 am tomorrow at Fort St George.
The venue of celebrations Fort St George, premises of airport, Central and Egmore railway terminals are among the locations where security has been beefed up.
Similarly, all other locations where general public assemble in large numbers have been brought under heightened surveillance as part of larger security measures in view of the Independence Day celebrations.
Coast Security Group of the State Police and Coast Guard personnel have stepped up coastal patrolling.
Vehicles are being checked in Chennai and suburbs in about 100 vehicle check-points.
Hotels, and lodges are being inspected to ensure that no anti-social elements are present. Traffic regulations are also in place around Fort St George.
